Speaker at the Biberach Center for Psychiatry – Departmental Training

Johanna Elsen

On February 19, 2026, I was a guest speaker at a departmental training course at the ZfP (Center for Psychiatry), Biberach location . The topic was eating disorders, with a special focus on those affected who do not fit the typical stereotype – the core of my book.

The presentation lasted about 50 minutes. I introduced my book, talked about its origins, and then addressed key issues that often accompany eating disorders: competition among those affected, the role of social media, and how family members and professionals can better support those affected.

Afterwards, there was an open question and answer session. The therapists asked many insightful questions, always with the following in mind: How can existing therapeutic approaches (both inpatient and outpatient) be improved? Which concepts work, and which are outdated? And how can social media be used professionally in everyday clinical practice? This is a topic that is particularly important for young adults.

I was particularly pleased by the great interest and active participation of the professionals. The direct exchange, in which theory, clinical experience, and the perspectives of those affected converged, was very enriching. I am also delighted to know that around 30 professionals were able to take away new ideas for their daily work.

All in all, it was an intense and inspiring day. I am grateful for the invitation, the open exchange, and the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience.
