REFERENTIN am ZfP Biberach – Abteilungsfortbildung

Speaker at the Biberach Center for Psychiatry – Departmental Training

Johanna Elsen

On February 19, 2026, I was a speaker at a departmental training event at ZfP, Biberach location. The topic was eating disorders, with a special focus on those affected who do not fit the typical cliché – the core of my book.

The presentation lasted about 50 minutes. I introduced my book, talked a little about its origins, and then delved into central themes that often accompany eating disorders: competition among those affected, the role of social media, and how relatives and professionals can better support those affected.

Afterwards, there was an open question and discussion round. The therapists asked many profound questions, always with the thought: How can existing therapy approaches (inpatient and outpatient) be improved? Which concepts work, which are outdated? And how do you professionally deal with social media in everyday clinical practice? A topic that is enormously important, especially for young adults.

I was particularly pleased by the great interest and committed participation of the specialist staff. The direct exchange, where theory, clinical experience, and the perspective of those affected met, was very enriching. I am also pleased to know that around 30 professionals were able to take new impulses for their daily work.

All in all, it was an intense and inspiring day. I am grateful for the invitation, for the open exchange, and the opportunity to share my knowledge and experiences.
