🎙️PODCAST: Endlich Normalgewicht – und trotzdem essgestört?

🎙️PODCAST: Finally at a normal weight – and still have an eating disorder?

Johanna Elsen

"Your body is enough." A sentence that sounds simple but is difficult for many people to believe. When is a body good enough? When am I good enough? With her photo exhibition "Your Body Is Enough", Caro Gugu addresses precisely these questions. The focus is on bodies, the people behind them, and their stories.

Eating disorders and body image are closely linked. That's why Caro and I decided to record a podcast episode together titled "Finally Normal Weight – and Still Eating Disordered?" The episode was produced at Alex in Berlin.

It was my first podcast shoot ever, and I was accordingly nervous before the recording. Although I now regularly give lectures, this format felt completely different. However, my nervousness quickly subsided because Caro and I got along well from the start. The conversation developed naturally and felt more like an open exchange than a recording. The fact that we started without a big script and with a lot of spontaneity certainly contributed to this.

In the 60-minute episode, we talk about eating disorders, societal beauty ideals, and the pressure to conform to certain body norms. A central question that concerns many is: Why doesn't an eating disorder automatically disappear just because the weight is (again) within the normal range? We also talk about personal experiences, body shaming, the influence of media, healing processes, and self-acceptance. Because health and well-being cannot be reduced to a number on the scale.

The podcast shoot was a valuable experience for me and increasingly awakens the desire in me to start my own podcast and offer people a platform for important social and personal topics.

At this point, I would like to sincerely thank Caro again for the invitation. The podcast shoot brought me a lot of joy, and I am already looking forward to our joint event in November.

If you want to take a look behind the scenes, you can find some impressions of the podcast shoot here. The podcast is available on YouTube and Spotify.

*Event Announcement*

Fitting with the topics of this podcast episode, we would like to draw attention to a special event: On Eating Disorder Action Day on November 26, 2026, in Karlsruhe, I will give a lecture on eating disorders and my book. The focus of the Action Day is Caro Gugu's photo exhibition "Your Body Is Enough". In addition, visitors can expect a diverse program with workshops, panel talks, and opportunities for exchange.

We look forward to welcoming all interested parties, affected individuals, relatives, and professionals. Further information on the event will be published here.
